Weymouth College has partnered with several local museums to celebrate Dorset's fascinating history through a series of lectures.

The regular lectures will run over the next six months, starting on Thursday 3rd October with Anne Brown from Shire Hall Museum, in Dorchester. Anne will be speaking of the exhibits and collections at Shire House, a former courthouse, bringing over 200 years of justice and injustice to life.

Future speakers will then be as follows:

  • October 24th – David Willey, The Tank Museum
  • November 14th – Kate Hebditch, Weymouth Museum
  • December 12th – Chris Wilson, Tudor House Museum
  • January 9th – David Carter, Portland Museum
  • January 30th – Elizabeth Selby – Dorset Museum & Art Gallery
  • February 13th – Steve Piper, Civil War talk
  • Geoff – The Nothe Fort

The lectures have been organised by Weymouth College History & Sociology Lecturer Sarah Downes, who hopes to bring Dorset's history to a wider audience.

She commented: "As a History Lecturer, I am enthusiastic about engaging our local community in the history that surrounds them. The lectures will be focused on the incredible and unique history we have here in Dorset."

The talks are open to all and will be free of charge (with exception of January 30th talk where there will be £5 charge).

Talks will start at 6.30pm and those attending should meet in the Weymouth College reception.
