The Prince of Wales School's very own delivery service which ensured children could continue learning while self-isolating and during lockdowns celebrated its first birthday this week.

Deliverpow has been responsible for getting more than 5,000 resource packs to the 220 pupils, with around 40 staff and volunteers stepping in to help.

Headteacher Gary Spracklen said: "We were in that crazy week where it seemed inevitable that we were moving into a national lockdown and schools were preparing for that and we already had a number of children isolating with Covid symptoms.

"So, we wanted to get resources out into the hands of our young people and the quickest way we thought we could do that was by setting up our own network of our own delivery drivers, so we launched deliverpow, inspired by Deliveroo.

"It reduced costs for us in terms of physically posting items out to everyone."

The service was much more than just dropping deliveries, it became a support network for children.

Mr Spracklen added: "We developed it over time so there was a bit of a welfare network and a bit of support network, there were lines of contact. There weren't just different people delivering to unknown addresses each week, it was people who would build up a connection with the people they were delivering to. They would check in weekly.

"Every Thursday through lockdown one lockdown two [when schools were closed] we sent resource packs home and they would include the work they would do next week but would also include a weekly challenge. We did things like making a teddy bear zipwire, that had a great response."

The children also had a catapult challenge, mail a hug, a skeleton challenge and many more.

The delivery network continues to be ready to go when required when children are not in.
