Dorchester's Dorset Museum is offering free entry on September 12 to mark Heritage Open Days

There will be free entry at Dorset Museum for one day only to celebrate Heritage Open Days.

Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture and will return this year from September 10 to 19.

To mark this, Dorset Museum is offering free admission on Sunday, September 12, giving visitors the chance to talk to staff, see the newly reimagined galleries and interactive displays.

Visitors will also have the first opportunity to join curators to explore behind the scenes of the new state of the art Collections Discovery Centre, where they will be able to find out more about the work going on to move the collections back to the museum following its redevelopment project.

Those on the tour will be able to explore some objects up close in the Conservation Studio, relating to this year's Heritage Open Days theme of 'Edible England'. Tours are limited and booking online is recommended.

Continuing the theme of 'Edible England', on September 15 and 16, Dorset Food and Drink will host a pop-up mini market in the Victorian Hall, with a variety of stalls selling local produce and products.
