A Dorchester school has become a dedicated donation hub to help the people of Ukraine.

The Prince of Wales School is working in partnership with Food Plus Boscombe to collect essential items and the response has been "phenomenal".

However, the school became filled with the generosity of the local community and it had to stop taking in donations.

Donations are welcome from individuals and small groups daily from 4pm to 6pm at the school in Maiden Castle Road.

Items particularly needed are blankets, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, thermal clothing, thermal tents, pillows, raincoats, underwear for men, women and children, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hairbrushes, instant food, instant milk for babies, canned food, energy bars, wipes, nappies, torches and batteries, bed linen, sanitary products and thermoses.

Headteacher Gary Spracklen said: "At The Prince of Wales School we have always taught our pupils that they have rights and that everyone should foster a sense of belonging.

"Our Ukraine appeal in partnership with Food Plus Boscombe is an extension of our teaching in the classroom. It is the least we can do to help at this challenging time.

"To all those who have donated, thank you, but let's keep going! Let's keep going with donations and pressure on our elected officials to take the tough decisions required to bring long-term peace and stability to our world."
