Students and staff from the Prince of Wales School in Dorchester took Martin a football theme fundraiser this week to support pupil Jensen Pittman, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, an incurable degenerative disease.
Jensen's parents Simon and Sabrina have set up 'Mission Jensen' to raise money for the charity Duchenne UK, which funds research into the disease.
In support of the appeal, The Prince of Wales School held a FIFA Marathon Day on Monday, with children wearing their favourite sports kits to school and playing the video game FIFA to raise funds.
Jensen's dad Simon challenged headteacher Mr Spracklen to a marathon seven-hour FIFA match between his team Liverpool and Mr Spacklen's favourite team, Manchester United.
Mr Spracklen admitted it was not the best timing for a Manchester Utd vs Liverpool event, commenting: "Let's be honest, raising money for a good cause is the only reason anyone would be wearing a Manchester United shirt today after Sunday night's 7-0 loss to Liverpool!"
The FIFA match was played on a big screen in the school hall with children invited to join in for a minimum donation of £5 to Mission Jensen: Duchenne UK.
Speaking about our fundraising efforts, Jensen's parents Simon and Sabrina said: "Duchenne is a heart-breaking condition, but with the support of others we are determined to find a cure.
"Jensen and his sister, Mina, are very much looking forward to taking part in the FIFA Marathon Day at The Prince of Wales School and we are hoping for another big Liverpool win, just like last night at Anfield!"
