Dorchester turned up in force to pay tribute on Remembrance Sunday

The people of Dorchester remembered those who have fallen in conflicts around the globe as large numbers turned up to pay tribute at the town's Remembrance Sunday service today (Sunday, 13 November).

The service was led by Rev Keith Magee and and address given by Pastor Mark Topp of the Storehouse Church. The Royal British Kegion exhortation read by Alex Miller. George Osborne of the Dorchester Royal Naval Association read the Kohima Epitaph.

The last Post was played by Lloyd Dunn, a student at Thomas Hardye School.

Dorchester Mayor Janet Hewitt led the laying of wreaths and organisations who laid wreaths included C Coy 6 Rifles, Dorchester Detachment Army Cadet Force, The Thomas Hardye School CCF, Dorchester Royal Naval Association, Dorset Police, Dorset Fire & Rescue, Lions Club of Dorchester, The Rotary Clubs of Dorchester, Royal Voluntary Service, Dorchester Round Table, St John Ambulance, Girl Guiding Mid Dorset, Central Dorchester Scout Group, Damers First School, Foresters Friendly Society, Dorchester Rugby Club, Fundraising Friends 222, The Plaza Cinema, Prince of Wales School, Manor Park First School, St Osmund's Middle School and Age UK .

Dorchester Town Council has expressed thanks to The Dorchester Band for leading the Remembrance Parade, the Durnovaria Silver Band for providing music for the service and Dorchester Rugby Club for crowd management

At 12.30pm a short ceremony at the Memorial took place remembering German Prisoners of War in Fordington Cemetery to remember the millions of people of other nationalities who have lost their lives through conflict.
