We have introduced a walk of the week for our newsletter subscribers to enjoy over the weekend.

Each Friday we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area with directions and photos. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.

This week's walk is in honour of the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival starting online today and is a 3.5-mile route around the village, which takes around one and a half hours. There are some inclines.

Start at the Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum and turn left - if looking at the road - to walk into Tolpuddle. Continue along the road, pass the church on your right and cross the road opposite the 'Central Farm' sign on houses on your left to the Tolpuddle Martyrs' Tree and go through the little green. Why not take some time to find out a bit more about it.

Come out on the other side of the green and go straight down the road. Bear left when you get to Southover House. Follow the road for just over a mile and there will be a church on your left.

We turned left at the church, going down the road signposted 'Bere Regis'. However, it is a fast, quite busy road with no pavement and you are on there for around 0.2 miles. At this point you can turn round and go back the way you came, picking up the walk again at the Tolpuddle Martyrs Tree.

If you decide to go along the road, take extra care and we recommend wearing a high vis jacket. Walk towards the traffic. After 0.2 miles there will be a small gap in the hedge, easy to miss so look out for it, and go over the stile into a field.

Stick to the left-hand side of the field, keeping the trees in your left and going around a group of trees to the left and head for the top right-hand corner of the field. There is a gate tucked into the corner with a stile next to it, go over it and walk along the left-hand side of the field. Take care as the ground is uneven.

Follow the path round the corner and up the left-hand side of the field and at the top go through the gate on your left, turning left when you get to the road. Continue along this road until you get back to the Tolpuddle Martyrs Tree.

When at the tree, cross the road and go up Central Farm Lane and continue straight up the hill, following the road around to the left. Follow the road until you get to a road bridge, turn left just before it.

Continue along this path and follow it round to the left where it becomes a smaller footpath, which will come out opposite the Tolpuddle festival site. Turn left there and continue on the path, which will bring you out onto a road where you turn right to walk back to the museum.

This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.
