Local mental health charity Dorset Mind invites people in Dorset to join them and complete 10k Steps a Day to aid their wellbeing in February.

"We're all starting to see glimpses of longer days as January draws to a close. This means there is more time to conquer the 29,000 steps – yes, we have a leap year! - in daylight, weather permitting of course!

The key element that makes this challenge more inclusive is that the mental health charity asks you to get active YOUR way – whether you walk, jog, run, wheel the distance - it all counts!

CEO Linda O'Sullivan recognises the power of mobilising a community for a purpose. She said "We see time and time again our incredible partners and organisations come together to help local causes. For this challenge, every participant will be also helping their own wellbeing too! 10,000 steps daily is quite a commitment, but I guarantee you'll benefit from taking this time for yourself."

How to enter

You can enter the challenge as an individual - or share your steps with others in a couple or team – it's always more fun doing challenges with someone else, and it helps keep you accountable.

Any donations raised would be very welcome - the charity last year supported 14,351 people across the county, including in Dorchester where they deliver an ecotherapy service that supports adults and young people not attending school.

The impact of this support is transformative.

A support worker told the charity recently "A young participant who has only been to three sessions is now able to get to most of her lessons, which is amazing as before attending the project they found it almost imposible to sit through even the first lesson."

Find out more by visiting Dorset Mind's website - dorsetmind.uk - or contact [email protected] for further information, the fundraising team is ready to support you – every step of the way!
