More than £400 has been raised for eye charities by the team at Dorchester's Vision Express.

Organised by Sam Zambelli, the fundraising day this week included a raffle, cake sale and art sale in aid of Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) and the Macular Society to mark World Sight Day and raised a total of £430.65.

She also donned a large pair of wacky glasses for the whole day, which has so far raised £230 in sponsorship, so close to her target of £250. Donations can be given here.

During the day the team was visited by 11-year-old Sophie, a local CHECT ambassador, and Tyler, who works for the Macular Society.

Sam said: "Our fundraising day was a huge success thanks to the wonderful, generous raffle donations from so many shops and restaurants in Dorchester and Poundbury, and due to the help I had on the day from Tyler, 11-year-old Sophie and my own dear mum who came down from Reading for the day.

"Vision Express as a company is so passionate about raising awareness of both eye related diseases - Macular degeneration and childhood eye cancer - but as an individual who has worked in optics for more than 15 years, and worked closely with children beforehand, and who also sees my dear 95-year-old nan suffer with macular disease, it makes it even more personal and so, so important."
