A motorcyclist who was caught riding while disqualified and over the drink drive limit after leaving a Dorchester pub has been jailed and banned from the roads for two years.

On the evening of Friday 7 June 2024 a report was received of a motorcyclist who was believed to be intoxicated leaving The Trumpet Major pub in Alington Avenue in Dorchester.

The vehicle was identified as belonging to a 20-year-old man from Bridport who had been disqualified from driving.

An officer was quickly on the scene and located the vehicle in Trinity Street. He stopped the rider and they gave a positive reading on a roadside breath test.

He was arrested and a subsequent sample of his breath revealed an alcohol level of 60 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

The motorcyclist was subsequently charged with drink driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without valid insurance.

He appeared at Poole Magistrates' Court the following day and received a 20-week prison sentence as well as further disqualification of two years.

Sergeant Anneka Stone, of Dorchester police, said: "We are fully aware of the dangers people riding or driving whilst under the influence pose to other road users and members of the public.

"In this case we responded quickly to identify the motorcyclist who was driving while under the influence and when he was already banned, and he was swiftly brought before the court to face the consequences of his actions.

"We will continue to respond to reports of this nature and ensure those who flout the laws of our roads are held to account."
