Every month we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area with directions and photos. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you will be able to receive the walk first and be able to enjoy it over the weekend.

This month's walk takes in some of Dorchester's main attractions and beauty spots and is around two miles, taking approximately one hour.

Stop off and spend some time at them, enjoying what Dorchester has to offer.

Start at the horse statue in Brewery Square and turn left to go up Weymouth Avenue towards Brewhouse. Just past the police station you will find Maumbury Rings, and opposite is the skate park.

Cross the road at the traffic lights and turn right down Maumbury Road. Just after Dorchester market café, cross the road and continue straight on Cornwall Road. The Borough Gardens are on your right, go through the gate and turn left to go through them. Go past the clock, band stand, fountain and children's play area to come out of the gardens on to Albert Road.

Continue straight to the Top o Town roundabout. You will pass some information about he Roman walls on your right, and at the roundabout, the Keep Military Museum is to your left, just up Bridport Road.

Cross the road to go down The Grove and you will see the Thomas Hardy statue on your left. Continue along the high pavement until you reach a right turn to the Roman Town House. go through it and walk through the site, leaving out of the exit on the left of the house to go back to the high pavement and turn right. Go down the stairs on your left and down the road opposite signposted 'Riverside and The Walks'.

Follow the road around Hangman's Cottage and after the bridge turn right to walk alongside the river. Here you will find John's Pond and Watermeadow.

Continue along this path and you will come to the Riverside Reserve, a nice loop that brings you back to the path next to the river. Continue along this path until it comes out onto London Road. To your right towards the town centre you will find Dorset Museum, Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum, The Tutankhamun Exhibition and The Dinosaur Museum.

Cross the road towards the Terracotta Warriors Museum and Teddy Bear Museum and go up Salisbury Street and the road next to the Salvation Army church to Salisbury Fields. Walk through them and on the other side, follow the path round to the right. Cross the road and you will come to Elisabeth Frink's 'Dorset Martyrs' statues.

Continue along South Walks and you will come to the war memorial, just after which is South Street with lots of shops. Continue on Weymouth Avenue and you will arrive back to the start.

This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.

Please leave gates as you find them - if you opened it, close it.

Please keep dogs on leads around livestock.
