UNTIL Friday 22nd July
In this talk Steve Wallis explores the prehistoric landscape of the Dorchester area, covering the changes over time and the different types of monuments and remains.
Not many towns in this country have superb prehistoric sites like Maiden Castle and Maumbury Rings close by, and there is so much else to discover within a few miles of Dorchester, such as the burial mounds and stone circles of the South Dorset Ridgeway. Equally important is what we can't see, the below-ground remains that have been discovered by archaeological excavation, and which we are learning more about all the time.
Steve Wallis is Senior Archaeologist for the Dorset Council's Environmental Advice Team. Much of Steve's work consists of giving archaeological advice to the planners and others involved in the development process but he also works on various other things, such as 'outreach' explaining to people what archaeology is about and what fantastic remains Dorset possesses.
