Celebrating the county town's ancient history and landscape, Dorchester hosted a successful three days of talks and walks for the Home of Hillforts & Henges weekend.

Held for the second year and tying in with the national Festival of Archaeology, events throughout the weekend were well attended, culminating with HengeFest, a free, family festival held at Maumbury Rings on Sunday, despite the wet weather.

The event included live music and morris dancing, as well as demonstrations of traditional craft, historic displays, games and activities, such as bushcraft and medieval grass billiards.

There were also plenty of stalls run by local organisations and food producers.

Event co-ordinator Miranda Woodgate said: "It remains very much a community event with great support provided by KeeP 106, Dorchester Roman Tours, Dorset Museum, Dorchester Civic Society and Dorchester BID.

"A huge thanks to our main sponsors, Dorset Hideaways, Kingston Maurward and Dorchester Town Council for underwriting the event. Also, Humphries Kirk Solicitors, Grassby Funeral Service, and Duchy of Cornwall.

"Their financial backing allowed us to put together some great activities and live music everyone to enjoy for free in Maumbury Rings.

"HengeFest is a great addition to the many different cultural events that have taken place inside this iconic monument for thousands of years."
